By the tide was retreating, the gravel was finally settling. The birthplace of contemporary art in Southwest China—Huangjueping, had experienced the impact of the commercial tide, to become a quiet shelter and regeneration place for artists.

There are groups engaged in visual creation, self-generating art spaces; there are installations, paintings, sculptures, and behaviors that dare to break through the traditional limitations; there are creators, innovators, and paranoids who are eager to communicate and collide

——Gu Tao, arts director of YINZI Theatre( Until 2020.5 )

Why Residency?

Residency is a means of communication and co-operation. It provides a possibility for individual creations and group collaborations to break through limitations, which might come from the environment, culture, experience... Residency means temporary migration, not only to bodies, but also thoughts and the courage. There will be unknown possibilities and fresh stimuli that will contribute to a new round of mutual inspiration.

Why Chongqing?

Chongqing is a culture pot melting with the city, towns, counties, villages, mountains, the water and docks. Life elements of humanity, history, aestheticism and visuality are spreading over the city. You can embrace it from scene transferring visuality to scattered village-like layout in the city, from diverse urban communities to developing internationalization. This is the epitome of contemporary urban culture of Southwestern China.

Why Huangjueping?

Fortunately, there is a space. We spent nine years exploring the potential of managing an experimental theatre and discovering the meaning of experimental art creation.

Fortunately, we have YINZI Theatre, a place for multi-art creation communications, to subversive the think that theater is the physical space that can only provide performance activities.
